Wellington’s Equestrian Scene Set for a Bold New Chapter in 2027

Exciting developments are underway in Wellington, Florida! A section of the Wellington International showgrounds, currently larger than the existing Global Dressage Festival (GDF) arenas, has been tentatively selected as the future home for international and national dressage competitions starting in 2027.
This area, near the main entrance of Wellington International and presently used for hunter competitions, is slated for repurposing to accommodate dressage events. Plans include the addition of a covered arena, enhancing the venue’s appeal for both participants and spectators.
This move aligns with local government agreements permitting the transformation of the current GDF grounds into a high-end residential and sports complex. However, this transition hinges on the completion of new facilities at Wellington International, ensuring a seamless continuation of the esteemed dressage events.
Initially, a 70-acre expansion of the showgrounds was earmarked for the new GDF location. However, recent planning has redirected this area to support jumper competitions, highlighting the dynamic nature of Wellington’s equestrian planning.
For the 2026 season, the GDF has proposed several schedule adjustments, notably moving the prestigious CDI5* event to January and increasing its prize money to $150,000. These changes aim to attract top international riders and elevate the competition’s profile.
Wellington’s commitment to evolving its equestrian facilities underscores its status as a premier destination for horse sport enthusiasts. These developments promise to enhance the experience for competitors, spectators, and the local community alike.
